Why We Don't Gather Enough - and How a Simple Craft Changed That

How decoupage connected me to the community.

We don't gather enough anymore.

Not in real life. Not around a table. Not without distractions.

We keep up with each other online, which is great - but it's not the same as sitting next to someone, working on something with your hands, and letting conversation unfold naturally. And honestly that' why I started hosting decoupage craft nights.

At it's core, decoupage is very simple. Paper, glue, a found object -like an oyster shell - and that's it. You don't have to be "crafty". You don't need special skills. It's approachable, and that's what makes it work so well for a group. When the craft itself isn't intimidating, people relax. And the best part? Everyone leaves with something beautiful - but also meaningful.

That oyster shell isn't just decor. It becomes a memory. A reminder of who you sat next to, what you talked about, how you felt. If you've followed me for a while, you know I care a lot about creating a home with depth and intention. About surrounding yourself with things that feel collected and personal. Making something yourself - especially in community - adds that kind of depth instantly. It's not something you just bought - it's something you experienced.

Hosting these nights has helped me feel more connected to our community. I've made new friends and fostered relationships with other small business owners. I love playing even a tiny role in what someone else is building.

That's why I'm so excited for our upcoming event this week. Yes, we'll make something beautiful - but more importantly, we'll gather and support one another. And I think we need more of that.

If you've been wanting to host something but feel intimidated, let this be your sign that it doesn't have to be complicated. A simple craft and a table full of people is more than enough.
