It has been awhile since I have sat and reflected. Our lives are sometimes so busy that we forget to do this regularly. Writing blog posts allows me to do just that - to think, reflect and hopefully inspire through my shared thoughts and words. Recently, my friend turned me on to Beach Cottage Chronicles, a series produced by The Magnolia Network and watching it had me feeling inspired to sit and write and share. (It's on Youtube if you want to tune in!) I don't have much time to watch a lot of television these days, but these little episodes are only about 10 minutes and somehow leave me feeling like I've just taken that first sip of wine at the start of a vacation.
Being on social media can sometimes get me caught up in the "rat race" trying to maintain my traction as a content creator, bring in more views, more followers, more likes - but that's not why I initially started this outlet. I started Seabreeze & Thyme because I wanted to exercise my creativity beyond motherhood. To feel passion outside of my roles as wife and mom. To create something that felt like mine.
And watching Beach Cottage Chronicles was just the reminder I needed about the importance of creating a home that is uniquely yours - a space that is the ideal for you and your family. Because that's what really matters most. At Seabreeze & Thyme, my goal is to inspire my viewers to create a home they are proud of and love to live in.
While watching the show, I loved hearing the stories of others' homes. And it made me stop and think: that's exactly what our homes should be, a story. A story of who we are, where we've been and what we love. There were certainly styles that were featured that weren't my personal taste - but I absolutely appreciated them. And even more so, I appreciated the people who created those spaces and honored themselves, their families and their stories.
In a way, it felt like a parallel to how I've been thinking about social media lately. There are so many trends and strategies for increasing your reach, just as there are constantly trending colors, furniture, and decorations. But taking a few steps back and remembering the importance of staying true to myself—despite what happens to be popular—felt almost cleansing. A breath of fresh air.
Honestly, lately I have been drawn to those accounts that feel more human. The ones that tell people's stories and share experiences. They help people on the other side of the screen feel less alone, less inadequate and less like they need to buy the next new thing.
So here I am, leaning into more of my own home projects. Being inspired by my surroundings. Creating because I love it. And trying not to have my nose stuck in my phone getting lost in comparison.
And I hope you will do the same. Lean into what YOU really love, not what the world tells you to love.
